Planning rowing facility improvements in New Jersey?
Project Overview
Wetland construction and a full package of site improvements prepared the Caspersen Rowing Center in Princeton Junction, NJ for a major expansion. Before any building work could begin, the site needed new infrastructure on land and along the water. Pillari delivered it, self-performing much of the work.
Preparing the Site for Growth
Pillari extended the existing bulkhead along the waterfront and placed site fill to prepare the building pad for the expansion.
Crews also installed a new pedestrian bridge and built a paved access road and parking lot. Together, these improved access to the facility for everyone who uses it.
Upgrading Stormwater Infrastructure
The site’s storm drainage system was upgraded to serve the expanded facility. To meet NJDEP stormwater management requirements, Pillari also installed water quality treatment units along the lake. These units treat runoff before it reaches the water.
Building a New Wetland
The stormwater plan also called for a brand-new wetland. This was one of the most challenging parts of the job, because groundwater had to be brought under control before any excavation could start.
Pillari designed and installed a deep-sump dewatering system to do exactly that. It held the groundwater down long enough for crews to excavate, install the liner and build the wetland. Once construction was complete, the area was reflooded and planted to establish new wetland habitat.
Self-Performed, Start to Finish
Because Pillari’s own crews handled the key work, the team could plan each stage closely and adjust quickly when site conditions called for it. That control mattered most during the wetland work, where timing and groundwater had to be managed together.
The Result
The Caspersen Rowing Center now has the infrastructure it needs to grow: a ready building pad, better access, upgraded drainage and a new wetland along the lake. It’s a strong example of site development that respects the natural setting while preparing for what comes next.
